"SNL" COMEDIAN NORM MACDONALD DIES AT 61
Norm Macdonald has died. The 61-year-old succumbed to a secret nine-year cancer battle. According to Lori Jo Hoekstra, his longtime producing partner and friend who was with him when he died, the “Saturday Night Live” alum was determined to keep his heath struggles private. He was scheduled to be part of the New York Comedy Festival lineup in November.
Norm got his start in the comedy clubs of his native Canada where he developed his trademark deadpan style. After being a contestant on “Star Search” in 1990, he got his first regular writing job on “The Dennis Miller Show.” Next up was another writing gig on “Roseanne” for the 1992-93 season before landing the coveted gig on “Saturday Night Live” where he stayed from 1993 to 1998, and was anchor of "Weekend Update." He also had his own sitcom, “Norm,” from 1999 to 2001 and had numerous TV guest shots and movie appearances.
“[Norm] was most proud of his comedy,” Lori Jo said. “He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or any of his loved ones saw him. Norm was a pure comic. He once wrote that ‘a joke should catch someone by surprise, it should never pander.’ He certainly never pandered. Norm will be missed terribly.”
BRITNEY SPEARS SHUTS DOWN INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT AFTER POSTING ABOUT FREEDOM
We all know Britney Spears likes to post on Instagram, but she suspiciously just shut down her account only a few hours after sharing a post about finally getting her freedom.
Sharing an article title “infusing education with heart,” the newly-engaged superstar , “Growing up in a world where basically almost everything I did was controlled by someone else… I hope this message gets to people who have been confused or manipulated by a system !!!!” She added, “No … you’re not alone and no … you’re not crazy !!!! People need to hear this before it’s TOO LATE !!!! I’ve waited 13 years and counting for my freedom !!!!!”
Britney then thanked the #FreeBritney movement, and shut down her account.
While fans freaked out over the missing Insta account, Britney took to Twitter to explain. “Don’t worry folks … just taking a little break from social media to celebrate my engagement," she shared. "I’ll be back soon.”
Meanwhile, a source tells the New York Post shutting down the account was Brit’s way of sending a “powerful” message. “She’s happy and in a great place,” the insider shares, “and silence can be a powerful thing and a powerful message,” adding, “This was her decision.”
JUSTIN BIEBER WAS THE MET GALA ENTERTAINMENT
As I told you, some of the biggest names in entertainment attended the Met Gala in New York City Monday, and apparently Justin Bieber was the night’s entertainment.
Justin, who walked the red carpet with wife Hailey earlier in the evening, was the surprise performer at the event, treating the A-list crowd to such songs as “Lonely,” “Hold On,” “Anyone” and “Baby.”
Meanwhile, at least one moment of the red carpet was likely unpleasant for the Biebers. While Justin's ex-Selena Gomez wasn’t at the event, some of her fans were and video shows that they started chanting her name as the couple arrived.
